Motion & Animation Engineer Intern
1. About the Role#
This is a full-time, remote internship role.
As a Motion & Animation Engineer Intern, you will have a unique opportunity to lay the groundwork for Atomity’s motion design system.
Your primary focus will be to conceptualize and architect a well-structured, reusable, and high-quality animation library from scratch.
You will directly own the animation layer of the Atomity frontend implementing smooth, purposeful, and performant animations across both our core product and marketing sites.
2. What You Will Work On#
- Build and maintain a reusable animation library and motion system for the Atomity frontend
- Implement scroll-driven animations, page transitions, and entrance/exit effects
- Implement micro-interactions for UI components (buttons, modals, tooltips, dropdowns, etc.)
- Build animated onboarding flows, loading states, and empty states
- Work with the Product/UI Designer to implement motion specs and animation intent from design
- Ensure all animations are performant (GPU-accelerated, no layout thrashing) and accessible (respects prefers-reduced-motion)
- Create reusable animation primitives and wrapper components that other developers can use
- Integrate 3D assets and Lottie/Rive animations into the web interface
- Document animation components and usage patterns for the engineering team
- Review existing UI for animation improvements and inconsistencies
3. Tech Stack & Tools#
- Framer Motion (primary animation library)
- GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) for complex and timeline-based animations
- CSS custom animations, keyframes, and transitions
- React 19 and Next.js 15 (App Router)
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS 4
- Lottie or Rive (for integrating designer-produced animations)
- Three.js or React Three Fiber (for 3D scene integration - nice to have)
- ScrollTrigger (GSAP) for scroll-driven animations
4. Requirements#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Creative Technology, Interactive Design, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience with Framer Motion, GSAP, or CSS custom animations
- Good technical knowledge of how browsers render animations and how to keep them performant
- Solid understanding of animation states: enter, exit, idle, hover, active, loading
- Good understanding of transition components and how to animate between UI states
- Experience with scroll-driven animations and viewport-based triggers
- Comfortable working in React and TypeScript
- Strong attention to detail: animations should feel polished, not just functional
- Ability to read design intent and translate it into motion without always needing explicit specs
5. Nice to Have#
- Experience with Three.js or React Three Fiber for 3D web animations
- Experience integrating Lottie or Rive animations into a React application
- Familiarity with WebGL or shader-based visual effects
- Experience with SVG animation and path morphing
- Understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines relating to motion (prefers-reduced-motion)
- Basic understanding of design tools like Figma to read motion specs
- Experience working in a startup or shipping animations to production
- A portfolio or demo reel showing motion and animation work
6. Details#
- Duration: 3–6 months
- Location: Remote only
- Start date: Flexible
7. What You Will Learn#
- How to architect a scalable animation system for a production SaaS product
- How to collaborate with designers to implement motion intent faithfully
- How animations affect perceived performance and user experience in real products
- How to write reusable animation primitives that the broader engineering team can adopt
- How to keep animations accessible and respect user motion preferences
- Advanced usage of Framer Motion, GSAP, and CSS animation techniques
- How a European B2B SaaS frontend is structured and shipped in production
8. Why Join Atomity?#
- Full ownership of the animation layer, you will define how Atomity moves and feels
- Work directly with founders and the design team to shape the product experience
- Real implementation work, not sandbox exercises
- Your animations will be seen by real users and customers
- High creative freedom, the animation direction is yours to define
